STYLES - CONSTRUCTION:
Solid Wood: Solid wood floors are one solid piece of wood, usually up to ¾” thick. One side is sanded, stained and if necessary, finished with a clear urethane. Solid hardwood should only be installed above grade over a wood subfloor as wood floors are susceptible to temperature and humidity changes and must be stapled or nailed down. Solid hardwood floors can be sanded and refinished many times.
Engineered Wood: Engineered wood is made from several layers of different woods or different grades of the same wood stacked and glued together under heat and pressure, creating a more structurally sound plank that won’t cup, twist, buckle or gap. Engineered wood is less likely to be affected by changes in humidity and can be installed above, on or below ground level.
